Joe Marta (b. 2001) is an up and coming composer focusing on band, choral, and chamber music. In 2019, he was a state finalist in the NJMEA Young Composers Competition for his piece Soar!, and in 2021 was a national finalist for his piece Derinkuyu in the American Prize Band/Wind Ensemble Division. His music has been performed by groups such as the Mana Quartet, Rutgers University Brass Band, Hanover Wind Symphony, and the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to his compositional endeavors, he is also an avid performer. Currently, he plays cornet with Princeton Brass Band and tuba with the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra. During his undergrad, he performed with various ensembles at Mason Gross on trumpet, trombone, horn, and tuba.
He has studied composition with Dr. Melissa Dunphy and Dr. Scott Ordway, as well as trumpet with Professor Kenneth DeCarlo and Mark Hughes at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
